How these predictions work

For each club we average goals scored and conceded across its last 6 league results (the window rolls across seasons, so current-season results replace last season's as they land). A club's expected goals is the midpoint of its attack average and the opponent's defence average, with the league-wide home edge — measured from our results data at 0.28 goals per game, not assumed — split across the two sides. Win, draw and win percentages come from scoring every plausible scoreline at those two expected-goals values (an independent-Poisson grid), which is why a draw chance is always shown: football is not a binary call.

Promoted clubs with no results in our data start on a labelled stand-in prior: the per-game scoring of last season's bottom quartile (1.02 scored, 1.68 conceded per game). Those calls are capped at low confidence until real results replace the prior, one game at a time. Established clubs with fewer than 3 results get no call at all.

Scores in our dataset are derived from player statistics through two independent routes (goals plus own goals, cross-checked against keepers' goals conceded). 24 of 386 played matches could not be confirmed by both routes and are excluded rather than guessed at. Every number comes from real results: a data lean, not a certainty, and team news can move any game.

EPL predictions: common questions

How are the EPL Round 1 2026/27 predictions made?
Each prediction comes from a transparent form-based model. For every club we average goals scored and conceded across its last six league results, matched attack against defence, with a home-ground edge measured from real results. Win, draw and win percentages are computed by scoring every plausible scoreline at the two expected-goals values. No ratings, odds or gut feel are involved; every number comes from real match data.
Are these EPL predictions free?
Yes. The headline call for every Round 1 2026/27 game is fully free and requires no account: most likely result, win/draw/win percentages, expected goals, a goal-margin band and an over/under 2.5 goals lean. Stats Lab members get the deeper layer underneath: player stats, matchup strength and fantasy tools for every club.
Why do the predictions show a draw percentage?
Roughly a quarter of Premier League games end level, so a binary home-or-away call would misrepresent the sport. The model always publishes all three chances - home win, draw, away win - summing to 100%, and when the draw is the most likely single outcome it says so rather than forcing a winner.
How are promoted clubs like Coventry, Hull and Ipswich handled?
Promoted clubs have no Premier League results in our dataset, so the model starts them on a clearly labelled stand-in: the per-game scoring of last season's bottom-quartile sides. Predictions involving a promoted club are capped at low confidence, and the prior is replaced by real results one game at a time as their season unfolds.
When are the predictions updated each round?
Predictions are generated from each club's most recent completed games and refresh automatically each hour as new results are confirmed. Once a round finishes, the page rolls to the next round's fixtures. Games that have already kicked off are withheld rather than tipped after the fact.
