How these predictions work

For each side we average points scored and conceded across their recent completed games, then match attack against defence: a club's expected score is the midpoint of its attack average and the opponent's defence average, with a fixed 2-point home-ground adjustment split across the two sides. The AFLW home edge is measured from real results and is far smaller than the AFL equivalent. The expected total is compared against a typical AFLW game (~80 combined points) for the total-points lean. When the expected margin is under five points we call it line-ball rather than forcing a pick, and when either side has fewer than 3 completed games we make no call at all. The new season has not started, so the sample is each club's most recent completed games from 2025. It is a prior-season form read, not live form. Every number comes from real results: a data lean, not a certainty, and team news can move it.

AFLW predictions: common questions

How are the AFLW Round 1 2026 predictions made?
Every prediction comes from a transparent form model. For each club we average points scored and conceded across their most recent completed games, then match attack against defence: a club's expected score is the midpoint of its attack average and the opponent's defence average, with a small home-ground adjustment. No ratings, no gut feel, every number from real AFLW results. No game in the new season has been played yet, so the sample is every side's most recent completed games from the 2025 season. Treat it as a prior-season form read, not live form: list changes over the off-season move it.
Are these AFLW tips free?
Yes. The headline call for all 9 games of AFLW Round 1 2026 is free and needs no account: predicted winner, margin band and total-points lean. Stats Lab members get the deeper layer on top, with matchup strength, player compare and full season stats for every club.
What does the margin band mean?
Margin bands group the expected winning margin into four ranges: 1-12 points (close), 13-24 (moderate), 25-40 (comfortable) and 41+ (dominant). AFLW results are spread wide (a median margin of 21 points across 2023 to 2025), so a band is honest where a single number would imply precision the data does not support. Margins under five points are called line-ball with no pick at all.
Can you predict AFLW Round 1 2026 before a ball is bounced?
Only as a prior-season form read, and we label it as exactly that. No game in the new season has been played yet, so the sample is every side's most recent completed games from the 2025 season. Treat it as a prior-season form read, not live form: list changes over the off-season move it. Round 1 is the least reliable round of any season: expect list turnover, new coaches and returning players to shift these calls more than they would mid-season.
How often do the AFLW predictions update?
The page rebuilds hourly and picks up each new result as it lands, so the calls always cover the next round to be played. Once a round finishes, the following round replaces it automatically.
